Built by the Monk family on the site of an earlier house, this Jacobean manor was embellished by the Victorian hymn writer Sabine Baring Gould, including granite mullion windows with 19th century stained glass and high ceilings with decorative plasterwork set off by rich oak panelling. The hotel bedrooms are tastefully decorated and the views are of the formal and informal gardens. The grand oak staircase descends from the long gallery to an imposing entrance hall that gleams with brass and there are many log fires and flowers throughout the hotel.
